Friday update

Well as most of you know...
we had a magnitude 5.7
earthquake last Sunday.

And now we hurry up and
wait for Mt. Redoubt
to erupt.
Lots of seismic activity
but no eruptions.

we are moderately prepared.
Water: in 2 empty kitty litter containers (will work to flush toilets)
Water: in 2 empty laundry detergent tubs (washing dishes)
Water: in 3 empty 2 liter soda bottles (drinking)
Water: 2 large pots in oven, teapot is full, coffee pot is full, and
a hot thermos is full of water also. Pet bowls are filled too.
Bandanas/ dust masks: check (somewhere)
Portable radio: check must find batteries
plastic bags to cover computers
rags to fill cracks in doors
dog booties: must make so Hugo doesn't bring in lots of ash.
we have lots of top ramen and chicken.
matches for stove
must also get a cartridge for a coleman lantern.
also need to get 3 air filters for cars

and need to review the Emily Ocher circular cast on
so I can attempt to knit a pi shawl during this time.

Thankfully the work week is over! Came home tonight w/ a migraine brought on by dehydration, lack of sleep and hunger. 9 hours that sucker lasted... am still feeling lingering effects, but pain level is no longer an 8.

6 more weeks of Winter!

As I was about to do this post, the sunset caught my eye. How pretty the pink tinged sky is. (5:15 pm at least the days are getting longer!)





This was the sky at 11:00. Nice and blue- the groundhog definitely saw his shadow.








The temperature this morning at 11:00 was -12. Yeppers... COLD! And we can expect these temps for another 2 1/2 weeks.

And since I am not that far into the book, haven't the foggiest idea about what is being talked about! The book's name is The Rescuer by Dee Henderson Book 6 of the O'Malley series. Dee Henderson is an author of Christian Thrillers.

Because people are interested in when all this snow will melt- there will be weekly yard pictures until all this white stuff is gone. What an excellent idea for a contest... Will be thinking of the rules for that one.

Another first this week was, Athena has hairballs really bad and has diarrhea. I know that's gross- but stay with me. Well she kind of missed the litter box and went on the entryway floor. So the putty knife was utilized to pry the frozen poop off of the cold plywood floor.

Stayed home today and found a missing box of 3T clothes for Bumpkins. Went through all of her dresser drawers and closet am now parting with a 1/2 full bag of 18 mos to 2T girls clothes. That is one large box gone and a small rubbermaid tote to be reassigned. Yeah! clutter busting! Last night, I found a shirt Bumpkin's got for Christmas and after washing haven't seen since.

Wednesdays works in progress

Works in progress: I have pictures... but the Dell laptop died and we can't find the cables for the camera to talk to the other comps. So there will be some long posts w/o photos. Sorry!

Knitting: Bumpkins leggings 2/3 done. DH quilt square: working on the outline stitch.

1. My girls are 16 yrs apart (there is only 4 days between their birthdays).
2. I was running slightly ahead of time for work (unusual) and after pulling my shirt over my head. The pronged sequin lodged itself into my nose like a piercing. I had to have assistance to remove shirt from sequin than ask permission to go to the dr. Boss Nige thought that I was joking. My head boss asked if I had been running late- for it to be under workman's comp. No such luck- and HR didn't get that interesting incident report!
   
3. Got vinyl letters stuck in fax machine at work. (Seriously the machine ate the letters!)
   
4. I don't like water in my face/eyes.
5. My favorite nut is the Macadamia (one meme I won't be doing is the nut one!)
6. I am not allowed caffeine while at work (something about a high metabolism and getting hyper).
7. In 3 years I will have lived in Alaska for 40 years. Yes I am a bona fide Sourdough!

Another Rainy day

My purple flower bed. Not that good of a pic. Now my irises down at the end are blooming as are my beach peas and chives. All purple!!! maybe when the bachelor buttons are done blooming I will move them over to here. Or better idea, flag them and move them next spring. Yeah my sunflower is up- all bets are off as to whether it will bloom though.
Knitting: I co and knitted 8 rows of a seaweed wrap. Then I wanted to get ten rows done last night, well in all my hurry I went from having 65 stitches to 72. Today I attempted to unknit to find the added stitches well that didn't work either as then I ended up with 56 stitches. Frogged and restarted. Already having difficulty because after the first row I had 66 stitches. So put it aside for a little bit later when I can really concentrate on the project at hand.

What else have we done today? I gathered trash and cleaned out one fridge. NASTY!!! Made a dr.s appt. for Bumpkins on Wednesday (was supposed to be today but I forgot to schedule one) Thing one is living back here- still thinks that DH's rules are to strict. The kid doesn't have insurance and he is extreme skate boarding w/o gear. All DH asks is that he wear gear when boarding. Thing Two was out drinking again, doesn't he know that if he gets caught he will go to the youth detention facility? And people say girls are harder to raise than boys. Yeah right. DH is going to let the band's bass player go. Now they need another bass player, they want another singer too. Bugger it- I can't find their band on the internet.
